So far, we’ve visited Museum Of Transport, Manchester Jewish Museum, Elizabeth Gaskell’s House, Chetham’s Library, Working Class Movement Library and Greater Manchester Police Museum and The Pankhurst Centre. We’re now taking our final trip around the hidden eight, to Victoria Baths.
What is it?
Victoria Baths is a stunning Grade II listing building, that has served the community for over 87 years. It is primarily used as a heritage visitor attraction, events and arts venue each year, with the aim to eventually restore it as a swimming pool and Turkish Baths for public use in the future.
The building itself is worth a visit, to admire its architectural beauty in every which way – from its stained glass to its tiles and mosaic floors, it really is a sight to be admired. The venue is so unique and beautiful, that it can even be hired for wedding and ceremonies – the perfect picturesque location for such a special day.
Throughout the year, Victoria Baths has a busy schedule hosting fantastic artist-led activities, events and exhibitions. You can view an archive of some of their recent brilliant art events here.
A great opportunity to have a look around is during their open days which take place on the second Sunday of each month from April to November (except August), where they also offer a range of guided tours and special events. They also take group bookings on weekdays, and weekly Wednesday tours with tickets available. Find out more here.
Where is it?
Victoria Baths is located on Hathersage Road, just south of Manchester City Centre. It is easily accessible by public transport including buses and trains, and car parking is also available.
