Spinningfields is located between Deansgate and the River Irwell, and is made up of 20 impressive builds spanning over 430,000 sq metres, housing many offices, retail developments and residential apartments. The area is very much seen as one of Manchester’s most luxurious destinations to shop, dine and drink, with an array of designer shops such as Mulberry and Emporio Armani, and popular restaurants and bars including Manchester House, Neighbourhood, The Alchemist and Tattu. There’s lots to see and do in Spinningfields, including particularly impressive architecture of buildings such as The Avenue, with it’s unique trapezoidal shape reflecting on the high quality, high class feel of Spinningfields itself.

Manchester Opera House

If libraries and museums aren’t quite your thing, why not book a seat at Manchester Opera House to see one of their incredible shows, musicals, ballets, concerts or Christmas pantomimes. The Grade II listed building opened in 1912 and seats 1,920 people. It was the chosen theatre for the premiere of famous musicals West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, Ghost the Musical and many more.

People’s History Museum

This is a must visit for those interested in the history of democracy in Britain, with some incredibly interesting public galleries and exhibitions on display. The museum’s history dates back to the 1960s when pioneer activists began collecting labour history material, to later open the museum in 1975. It offers a great learning programme for people of all ages, as well as a programme of public events throughout the year, including tours of the museum, performances and talks.

John Rylands Library

A visit to Spinningfields wouldn’t be complete without taking some time to admire the beautiful architecture and glistening history of John Rylands Library. The library was built in Manchester over 100 years ago, opening in 1900, in memory of English entrepreneur and philanthropist John Rylands, owner of the largest textile manufacturing concern in the UK. The library attracts over 250,000 visitors a year to see their fascinating collection of over 1.4 million items including books, maps, manuscripts, work of arts and objects.
