We were contacted by a client from North America through Viator, a website for professional tour guides. Karen’s request was to trace her family back to a tiny village in Wales where her 3x Great Grandmother had lived in the 1840’s.
We arranged a full day tour and a few weeks later we met at a hotel in Manchester City Centre. This was going to be Karen & Joe’s first trip to Wales, and you can imagine their excitement.
Manchester is ideally placed to visit Wales for the day, and a couple of hours drive later we arrived in the village where Karen’s ancestors had lived. The tiny village has an ancient Norman Church, and this is where we found Karen’s 3x Great Grandmothers grave.
As this was a Sunday, the Church service was just finishing. I popped into the Church and introduced myself to the Vicar explaining my reason for being there.
Word spread through the congregation and a traditional warm Welsh welcome was given to Karen. We met the keeper of the Parish Records who assisted Karen to find her ancestors entries in the ledgers.
The records gave more information than we could possibly have imagined, an address!! And, it was still there!!
I think word had spread from the Church, as another great welcome greeted Karen who was immediately invited in to the cottage where her ancestors had lived.
After a tour of the cottage and gardens with tea & biscuits, it was time to bid farewell.
We took the scenic route back to Manchester , through Snowdonia National park and some of the countries most stunning scenery.
